The story behind this Algebra / Linear Programming unit involves splitting up a large, overcrowded school into two smaller schools, a process that has been forced upon many big schools throughout New York City. Once your students determine how many imaginary students should be placed in each of their new schools, their goal is to minimize the overall cost to the schools, to maximize the Graduation Rates, and to take into consideration which of the possible answers would be the best and most fair to all students involved. |
